good tasting high protein low carb drinks?

May 3, 2009

i'm going in for bariatric surgery in the next couple months. i am to be on a strict liquid diet for the first couple weeks after surgery. i was told it had to be a high protein, low carb fluid and i need to get at least 60-70 grams of protein each day.

i've been trying some different shakes and drinks to see what i might like before hand so i don't buy an entire case of something i hate. so far most of them taste terrible, like swallowing chalky goo.

the only one i liked was a drink called isopure which was like a vitamin water with 40 grams of protein.

does anyone have any suggestions on what's good or tolerable tasting that fits the bill?

If you are looking at the protein shake preparations, they might all have the powdery taste if you don't prepare them right…

I think the trick is to alway use a stick blender (or regular blender)… mixing it manually with a spoon does not allow the powers to be distributed in the liquid… blending will make the shake have smoother consistency…

Try going to a health store or a vitamin supplement store and ask them what they would suggest… if they are weight trainers, they can let you know what works for them…

Good luck on your surgery, a fast recovery and in attaining your health goal…
